Exploration Puzzle / 2019
Outer Wilds
A rare game where knowledge is the real progression system.
Outer Wilds is built around curiosity with unusual trust. It gives the player a tiny ship, a fragile body, and a solar system that behaves like a watch full of accidents.
The design is astonishingly clean. There are no levels to grind and no stats to inflate. Progress is what you understand, and every solved mystery makes the world feel less like a map and more like a memory palace.
It is also moving without leaning on sentimentality. The game makes cosmic scale feel intimate, then makes intimacy feel cosmic.
Three stars because it expands the vocabulary of what exploration can mean.
