Action Roguelike / 2020
Hades
A beautifully tuned action roguelike that makes repetition feel dramatic.
Hades solves one of the genre’s oldest problems: how to make repeated failure feel like narrative momentum. Every escape attempt gives the combat more texture and the house more life.
The action is immediate and legible. Weapons change the shape of a run, boons create little tactical weather systems, and the pace rarely slackens.
What makes it special is the accumulation. Dialogue, relationship, and mechanical mastery all move together, turning repetition into ritual.
Two stars because it is a fantastic game and one of the most inviting examples of its form.
